-------------
On April 3, the Victoria literary community and story lovers of all stripes are in for a treat as we welcome Chirine El-Ansary for one evening only. Born in Egypt, she spent some of her childhood in France as well. Chirine is a multi-lingual storyteller and physical performer now residing in both countries. She was one of the first artists to perform in the ancient buildings in the heart of the old city of Cairo. Today, she is internationally known, having performed in places as diverse as Zanzibar, Johannesburg, Rome, Naples, London, and Paris. Her exquisite work includes performances of The Arabian Nights, a remarkable adaptation of the Banu Hilal epic and Sufi tales. Chirine lures us into a tale the way sumptuous aromas of home cooking lure us to the home hearth; We are drawn in and must move closer still... In this way we, the listeners, become envelopped in the magic, the anticipation and the adventure. Thank you to the Canada Council for the Arts and Parksville's Tales for the Telling for making this event possible.
