MARS is hosting the 10th annual Bald Eagle Festival. Our theme this year is"The rearing period", covering nesting to fledging which is crucial for the proliferation of each species. We have some excellent guest speakers, Mike Yip (retired teacher & amateur photo-journalist), Bruce Cousens, (biologist with the Western Purple Martin Foundation), Terri Martin, (Environmental Coordinator for the city of Campbell River), and our very own Founder & Manager, Maj Birch. There will be several interesting and educational displays and people available to answer any questions you may have. Have you ever been up close and personal with a raptor? Here's your chance. Bird handlers will be on site with live raptors. Our Mascot "Phoenix" will be there too.
The F.E.A.T.H.E.R.S. parrot club will have a display and Gerry Powers with his Owls of BC. to name a couple.
The photo contest sponsored by Photo Tech will have two categories, BC Native plants & BC Native animals. Non-native species will be eliminated. Please visit our website for more info. www.wingtips.org
You can view the photo contest entries and vote for your favourite. There will be kids activities which will include learning about protecting nesting birds and face painting by our very talented Connie Schaad. For anyone with the munchies, there will be food and beverages available at a nominal price.
This event is indoors so the weather won't be an issue and there is ample parking.
Our wonderful sponsors are BC Hydro, Photo Tech fotosource in CR and 97.3 the Eagle FM.
