2019 Heritage Summit - The Ties That Bind

We invite you to attend our annual Heritage Summit. The Summit is intended to heighten heritage awareness in the community during Provincial Heritage Week (February 17 to 23), and highlight the work of the many local organizations interested in heritage issues.
Similar in format to past Summits, the event will be separated into two parts. The first part will feature a presentation by Christine Meutzner (Nanaimo Community Archivist) called “The Ties That Bind”, where she will discuss how Nanaimo’s many railways shaped our economy, neighbourhoods, and identities. In addition, Aimee Greenaway (Nanaimo Museum Curator) will provide a short presentation on the Museum’s latest featured exhibit “Nanaimo Mysteries”. Highlights from the new feature exhibit include historic murders, a safe cracker, a forgotten ski hill and Cadborosaurus sea monster.
The remainder of the evening will be devoted to a roundtable discussion between culture and heritage organizations in attendance. Each group will have up to five minutes to share information about their mandate, recent accomplishments and upcoming projects. We hope the information shared will lead to greater co-ordination of effort amongst Nanaimo’s heritage-minded community. Groups are welcome to bring their own printed materials (brochures, etc.) for display and circulation to those in attendance.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO ATTEND. If you wish to participate, please RSVP to 250-755-4483 or [email protected] prior to February 15, 2019.
