A stroke is sudden, terrifying and destructive. A stroke occurs when
blood flow to the brain is blocked or interrupted. When blood is unable to reach an
area or areas of the brain, brain cells begin to die, which can cause permanent
damage. The extent of that damage varies from person to person, and can result in
problems with speech, memory or movementbut in all cases the persons life is
irrevocably changed. Nothing is ever the same.
Stroke survivors and family caregivers are invited to attend a 5 week
community stroke recovery education series.
Participants will learn:
● Coping with change and stress after stroke
● How to get what you need from your care team
● Building supports in your community
● Your New Normal: redefining yourself after stroke
● Life after Stroke ways
to cope with life not just in the days right after the
stroke, but the weeks, months and years after the hospital stay ends.
● Gaining increasing independence and life enjoyment after a stroke.
Participants will also meet other stroke survivors and caregivers and will leave with
knowledge, tools, skills and information that will in the journey through life after a
stroke. Theyll learn life will never be the same again but
that it can be productive,
enjoyable, and sometimes, even better. There is life after stroke.
