North Island College and Emily Carr University are pleased to present Doug Jarvis, the first speaker in the Fall 2013 Artist Talk lecture series.
The series invites students and the public to participate in a free 50-minute lecture at the Stan Hagen Theatre on NIC's Comox Valley campus. Lectures start at noon, every other Tuesday, from October 8 to November 19, 2013.
Jarvis is interested in conceptual strategies for the artistic production of perceptual and pseudoscientific devices that question technology as a human attribute. His art practice incorporates sculpture, video, drawing, performance, digital imaging, and the internet to render the experience of being a sensory agent in the world.
He performs independent research in an international context constructing theories of collaged space, fictional entities, and the sense and nonsense of engagement with the things around him. He develops projects to challenge and critically engage these ideas and to highlight his own sense of paradox as an active participant in a world in which he absorbs and exhausts simultaneously.
Doug Jarvis is an artist and curator living in Victoria, BC. He is a founding member of the avatar performance art group Second Front and the Noxious Sector Arts Collective. His individual land collective projects have been shown extensively nationally and internationally.
