The Comedian is the story of comedy in the Roman Republic, and of Titus Maccius Plautus, principle comic playwright of his time. Licking his wounds after a series of artistic flops and financial disasters, Plautus fled to the countryside. Now he’s back in Rome, ready to produce a new play despite a plethora of creative and financial barriers. Redolent with the sights and smells of the ancient world, The Comedian is a rowdy, boisterous ride through the realm of theatre in its infancy.
Clem Martini has written over thirty plays. His texts on playwriting are used in universities across the country. He is author of the memoir Bitter Medicine, winner of the W.O Mitchell Book Prize, and Alberta Reader’s Choice Award.
