Avenues for Action 2014 is a day-long conference that aims to highlight opportunities and success stories in sustainability initiatives on Vancouver Island. We intend to foster a space of collaboration and cooperation towards our mutual goals of living sustainably on Vancouver Island by bringing together pioneers from a variety of areas of experience. Ideally participants will leave with a greater understanding of local sustainability initiatives currently in place in both the academic and wider community.
We are pleased to welcome Michael M'Gonigle, author of "Planet U: Sustaining the World, Reinventing the University" as our keynote address.
A coalition of passionate people from the Vancouver Island University community are hosting this event. Sponsoring groups include VIU Environment & Sustainability, Solutions: a Sustainability Network, The Campus Food Movement, United Cyclists Union, The Sociological Student's Union and the VIU Geography department.
From rain barrels to hydro-electric dams; coastal life and defending our coast; and virtual water, gray water, and bottled water, our connections to water and energy are profound and unique as the inhabitants of Vancouver Island. We hope you will join us for a day of dialogue and participation!
Registration is required and lunch will be provided.
