The Comox Valley Pipe Band Society is celebrating Robbie Burns with their 5th Annual Burns Dinner fundraiser.
Over the last 200 years events have been held around the world each year to commemorate the birth of the highly acclaimed Scottish poet and lyricist Robbie Burns (January 25, 1759 – July 21, 1796). The local celebration promises to be a traditional Burns Night, complete with the piping in and addressing of the haggis with Burns’ poem To A Haggis’, toasts to the ‘lassies’ and ‘lads’, entertainment, food, fun, and door prizes.
The night begins with fellowship at 6:15 pm, followed by a roast beef dinner at 7 pm including salad, haggis, carrots, tatties (potatoes), neeps (turnips), dessert and the opportunity to win some wonderful door prizes!
The evening’s entertainment includes piping and drumming from The Comox Valley Pipe Band, and highland dancing from students of the Lori Tinkler School of Dance. “We’re looking forward to another great turnout for our Burns Dinner,” shares Alexis Forbes, band member, “We have sold out the last few years and are appreciative of the community support- especially when they come dressed in their favourite tartan attire!”
The Comox Valley Pipe Band is currently comprised of over thirty regular members and over ten student pipers and drummers. These fundraisers allow them to continue outfit and upgrade the band’s equipment and uniforms, allow members to access training and workshops and for the band to continue to provide public appearances at community events.
Tickets are $40 and are on sale and going fast.
