Clothing as Art: Connecting to the traces of memory, tradition, and expression contained in the canvas of everyday textiles . This workshop is an opportunity to use familiar textiles in an unfamiliar way, to explore the creative possibilities of clothing as an object, and to stitch with thread and needle as one draw with pen and ink. In this introductory workshop, we will discuss our personal histories with clothing, the memories it contains, and our use of it as a canvas. We will explore the properties of thread and how to think about it creatively.
Though we will be working on specific pieces, the goal of this workshop it to develop a way of thinking creatively about the things closest to us to physically and metaphorically. Diana Weymar is a Victoria-based artist. She has attended The Vancouver Island Art School and The Arts Council of Princeton. She was recently an artist with Build Peace in Nicosia, Cyprus, had shows at Xchanges Gallery (Victoria, B.C.) and The Smithers Art Galllery (Smithers, B.C.).
