1:30 PM to 3:30 PM

In recent decades, the production of electricity in many western parts of the world has become highly centralized and obsessed with large-scale, mostly unsustainable modes of production. It is no coincidence that the growth of the grid corresponds with the trend towards globalization, and that this tends to exclude and marginalize communities and to privilege carbon-intensive approaches.

Sierra Club Nanaimo presents a discussion by Dr. Michael Mehta, who will speak on solutions to unsustainable electricity generation. Part of the global initiative, Reclaim Power.

This talk will focus on the need for a massive de-gridding of electrical infrastructure and provides examples of how small-scale, community-owned and operated utility companies and cooperatives can function as drivers for adopting greener technologies.

Part of the month-long global initiative, Reclaim Power.
