Die Fledermaus, in its original form, is a highly entertaining and irreverent operetta. The plot is hysterically funny, the characters are ridiculous, and the music is full of well-known melodies. For someone who is considering going to their first opera/operetta, Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus is definitely the one to attend. This performance, however, replaces all of the big, operatic voices with those of ten and eleven year olds.
Sung in English and edited down to a healthy 100 minutes, the Grade 5 students from St. Michaels University School invite everyone to come and watch opera, the way it was never intended to be performed.
