This six week course will take you from concept and project development, through the technical and creative aspects of production and on to a completed series of portraits.

To make a documentary portrait of an individual that has impact and tells a story, is not as easy as you might think.
We will discuss important technical and creative choices choices from camera format and how this affects your portraits, to lighting, including working with and modifying available light, and most importantly, how to approach and work with your subjects.
Each week we will address topics relevant to producing a series of documentary portraits and review work in progress.
At our final class, participants will present a series of six to nine finished prints for review.

Week 2: Portraits with Impact: The Role of the Photographer
Week 3: Fundamentals of Portrait Lighting, Working with + Modifying Available Light
Week 4: Project Reviews
Week 5: Published Works: Giving Your Projects A Life
Week 6: Final Reviews + Presentations
WHAT TO BRING
- Camera & Lenses, Tripod - film or memory card
- Students may choose to work with either digital or film for this course.
- Laptop, loaded with LR (optional)
- No previous portrait experience is required.
Final presentation will be a series of 6 to 9 prints. * Please note that materials and printing costs are not included in the course fee.
