An Evening of Irish Music, Song and Good Humour with Martin Nolan, uilleann pipes and whistles, and Terry Boyle, guitar and vocals.
Experience the raw fun and excitement of “the session” with the polish of two well-travelled masters of Irish traditional music and song. Martin and Terry first played together in the thriving session scene in Dublin in the heady days of the Irish folk music revival of the 1970s. Since then their life and musical paths have crossed on a few occasions but with never enough time to develop a show. Terry’s recent retirement from school teaching in Ladysmith and Martin’s extended visit to Nanaimo in 2017 made it possible for these musical friends to rekindle the flames that were first ignited back in Dublin many years ago. Join them for some toe-tapping tunes, songs and Irish good humour.
Martin Nolan plays Irish music on uilleann pipes and whistles. He has been a part of the Irish traditional music scene for decades, as well as playing in Celtic progressive rock band IONA and with Khanda, an Irish band with jazz, trad, and international flavours. He has two solo trad albums and has played and recorded with jazz greats such as Dave Liebman, the late Michael Brecker, and Ronan Guilfoyle, as well as performing on international radio and television.
Terry Boyle is a singer/songwriter guitar player from Dublin who has toured extensively in Europe and the U.S.A. Terry, who now lives in Ladysmith, is a recording artist with a wide repertoire of Celtic and original songs and has been featured a number of times on Irish radio and T.V.
