7:00 PM to 9:30 PM

The United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People will take place at the United Nations this year on Monday, November 25th. The Solidarity Day has traditionally provided an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine is still unresolved and that the Palestinian people is yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly, namely, the right to self-determination without external interference, the right to national independence and sovereignty, and the right to return to their homes and property from which they had been displaced.

To bring this focus to the attention of people locally, Mid-Islanders for Justice and Peace in the Middle East/Comox Valley (MIJPME) welcomes Canadian born journalist and activist Eva Bartlett for the kick-off her speaking tour through British Columbia and the US west coast. On Tuesday, November 26th, 2013, the public is encouraged to attend Bartletts presentation, Gaza in Crisis: An Eyewitness Report.

Called Canadas Rachel Corrie, Bartlett has been living in Gaza since 2008. Her eyewitness accounts from Occupied Palestine have been published in The Electronic Intifada, Inter Press Service, Countercurrents, and her own blog. As a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement, Eva accompanies Gaza farmers and fishers under threat of harassment and sniper fire from Israeli forces. Eva rode with the medics in their ambulances during Cast Lead, Israels devastating assault on Gaza in 2008-2009 which killed 1,500 Palestinians, and she documented the 2012 attacks from a central Gaza Strip hospital.

runners' motto: Beyond politics, Beyond barriers, Beyond "us and them".
The Eva Bartlett speaking engagement is being co-hosted by Mid-Islanders for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, the Comox Valley Peace Group, and the Comox Unitarian Fellowship.
