Sips - Friday: 6:00 pm Feastival - Saturday: 10:00 am

“FEASTIVAL” is Nanaimo’s second annual festival celebrating the Island’s culinary culture. This year, the mid-Island’s food and beverage festival takes place over two days on June 17 & 18 at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

Friday evening introduces “SIPS” – sampling of “local” craft brews, ciders, wines, and spirits. And by local, we mean some of the finest Vancouver Island and lower mainland craft producers! A new addition to Friday's SIPS is the "Brewed Right Here" competition seeking the finest local home brew. A souvenir SIPS tasting glass and 5 complimentary tasting tickets are included in the $39 admission price. Additional tasting tickets are available on site.

On Saturday, Feastival visitors will rediscover last year’s favourite attractions like our Celebrity Chef Stage, this year headlined by Karen Barnaby, Vancouver Sun columnist and past Executive Chef of the Fish House in Stanley Park.

She’ll be followed by other noted chefs, well-known authors and food experts. Laura Gosnell of Coast Fresh will be preparing salmon, Angelo Prosperi-Porta will present recipes featuring honey, and Tammy Deline & Caniel Caron from 2 Chef's Affair and The Modern Cafe will show you some of the tricks and tips that helped them win Downtown Restaurant of the Year.

Family Food Prep Lessons are presented by FoodShare once again with three classes offered during the day making healthy smoothies and 'Paradise Island Salad'.

The Seafood Chowder Cook-Off is a challenge undertaken by 2-time Chowder Competition "The Bold Knight" and Sea Salt Food Co. Admission to Feastival includes unlimited taste tests of the chowders so you and your family can help pick the People’s Choice this year.

Visit local restaurants’ and food purveyors booths for samples of their specialties – five tasting tickets are provided with admission. The Feastival trade show presents products and services to make your dining experience better – many exhibitors here will also be offering samples and tastes. The daytime “Sips” section features tastings of Island wines, craft brews and spirits with an on-site retail outlet.

Come and discover some interesting local producers and see how their businesses impact the economy and will change the beverages on your ‘favourites’ list. Out on Gordon Street, Feastival features the return of the Food Trucks with their diverse fare and selection of street eats.

Get a taste of the Island’s culinary culture in all its delicious forms.
