NIC's Global Learning Initiative and Girls go Global invite you to a screening of 'Fight Like Soldiers, Die Like Children' on Nov. 5, 2013 at the Stan Hagen Theatre, Comox Valley campus.
In 1994, General Romo Dallaire received orders to stand by as a genocidal civil war engulfed in Rwanda. 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were slaughtered in 100 days. Dallaire returned to Canada a disillusioned and shattered man. Still haunted by these memories, the celebrated author and humanitarian has embarked on a new mission: to bring his passion and dedication to ending the recruitment and use of children as soldiers around the world.
Director Patrick Reed, researcher and producer of the Emmy Award-winning film, Shake Hands With the Devil, follows Dallaire through the DR Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan and North America as he meets with child soldiers, self-defense groups, militia leaders and those trying to demobilize these children.
Based on Dallaires 2010 similarly titled book, Fight Like Soldiers, Die Like Children makes clear the critical importance of his work. The film is directed by Patrick Reed and produced by Peter Raymont and Patrick Reed for White Pine Pictures.
Admission is by donation to the NIC Global Learning Initiative and Romeo Dallaires Child Soldier Initiative. Doors open at 7 pm. For more information, please contact Jane Morris at 250-897-6877 or Susan Auchterlonie at 250-334-5271.
