2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Ha-Ramabele is the home of Thabo Liphoto, a second year Pearson College student. Liphoto wants to help his mother form a Women's Support Group to help orphans and the elderly live more comfortably. Lesotho has the highest percentage of orphans and the third highest percentage of HIV/AIDS in the world. The village is desperately poor. Liphoto is already working with his mom and his mom is working with many of the village women in a group to visit orphans and the elderly, take them food, clothing, lotions; things to improve health and comfort. They have done much of this in the past months from their own household money which is itself always stretched. They are making brooms and mats to sell to make money for the group and would like to sew clothing both to sell and to distribute to the needy. They would dearly love to have some sewing machines to accomplish this goal. Our group was formed from the extended family of Lipoto's host family in Victoria. We want to help Liphoto help his mom help his village. To that end we are holding a fundraiser where Liphoto and friends, fresh from Pearson College's One World performance at the McPherson Theatre, will teach gumboot dancing, Jordan Hanson from Hand Drum Rhythms will do two workshops on African Drumming, and kids can do art, and make African wire cars, We'll have displays of life in the village, crafts, national dress. The afternoon is a family affair and their will be lots of activities To raise money to send to the village, we'll encourage patrons to sponsor a piece of a sewing machine and bid on the many exciting items in our silent auction. Our goal is to raise $5000.00.
