History of Gallery Row:
Approximately five years ago, a group of ad hoc volunteers established a display of donated art works on the exterior of the derelict buildings at the corner of Fitzwilliam and Wallace Streets on the border between Nanaimo�s Old City Quarter and its City Centre. The properties were purchased and improvements undertaken by George and Laura Ewing. The Ewing's have decided to update and upgrade the Outdoor Gallery and invited a selection of community arts supporters to oversee the acquisition and exhibition of art. The culmination of this committee�s work will coincide with the City of Nanaimo�s Public Art Week May 6th � 13th, 2012. The Gallery Row Art Festival and unveiling of the newly acquired art will take place in the Gallery on May 11th, from 4pm-7:30pm.

The event if for all ages. There will be a stage set up with music playing, other local talents performing, unveiling of the new art display, drumming, a blacksmith, face painting, contests, a giant raffle, silent auction of last years artwork, pizza, nanaimo bars, "Gallery Row" postcards with artwork on them and plenty of other souvenirs!

Since this is a fundraising event- to improve and develop the gallery and to host more awesome events, we ask that entry be by donation. Suggested donation is $5, but everyone and all donations are welcome! This event is sure to be an enjoyment for all, and we hope to see you there!

If you are an artist interested in submitting a piece of artwork to our gallery, or are a volunteer/entertainer that is interested in becoming involved in the event, feel free to email [email protected] with "attn: Sadie" in the subject line!

Also, we are looking for other accomplished local artists to become involved in our silent auction. It takes place during the event and the artist will receive 50% of the funds raised, with the rest going towards the support of Gallery Row. What a great way to show off your art and become noticed!
