Hiroshima Lantern Ceremony
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
This is a beautiful ceremony hosted for the 17th year in Nanaimo by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.
The Lantern Ceremony is to commemorate the first use of atomic warfare when the city of Hiroshima was reduced to ashes in 1945 followed by the bombing of Nagasaki on August 8th. It is our hope that it will never happen again anywhere. Folk dancing and peace songs will precede the event.
The program includes playing of the Shakuhachi Japanese flute by Margaret Sutton. Children are welcome and will have an opportunity to carry a lantern to the water's edge.
