Have you ever been intrigued by the beauty and visual complexity of Islamic geometric tile designs? Contrary to what you might think, these patterns are easily made by the "beginner" through a series of techniques that are explained and demonstrated with a simple step-by-step process. You will learn to make several versions of these designs during the day and assemble these patterns into a reference manual (for easy follow-up at home). Instructor Xane St Phillip, who has studied with renown Islamic design expert, Eric Broug, and who has experienced many of these designs first hand in his travels, will demonstrate how the basic techniques used in all geometric designs are made only with a pencil, compass and ruler. No mathematical equations are needed. You will witness how Islamic geometric designs come to life when you assign colours to the pattern system. Instruction will be supplemented with various examples of historic and contemporary designs.
