A night of jazz from Portland, Oregon with Heather Keizur and Steve Christofferson.
One of the most unique and gifted singers on the Northwest Jazz scene, jazz vocalist Heather Keizur—who sings in both French and English—stands out from the crowd in a refreshing and enchanting way.
Regularly performing with some of the Northwest’s premier jazz musicians, Keizur has also fronted for jazz groups made up of world class players such as Seattle’s jazz guitarist Milo Petersen, formerly with Eartha Kit and Bay Area pianist David K Mathews, currently touring with Santana and formerly of the Etta James’ band.
Heather’s passion for music began as a child in British Columbia, Canada. Throughout her life, she has performed as a soloist, and with a variety of jazz bands, country and pop music duos, and in churches in Canada, Oregon, and California. In 2008, she hit the vibrant Portland, Oregon jazz scene with her unique, timeless and bi-lingual style and is now a well-known and highly esteemed presence there. She also performs in Seattle, Port Townsend, and Vancouver Island, BC.
Citing such influences as Edith Piaf, Eartha Kitt, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, Heather recorded her first full length CD, J’ai Deux Amours, in August of 2010. A testament to the high caliber of her talents, she is accompanied on the album by world class players: Steve Christofferson on piano and melodica, David K Mathews on piano, Michael Zisman on bass and mandolin, and Akira Tana on drums. Heather also recorded a demo CD in August of 2008 with jazz recording artist Tom Grant and one of Portland’s top bassists, Dave Captein. Heather is currently working on her third CD with Steve, Dennis Caiazza and Ron Steen.
Steve Christofferson started out as a garage-band guitarist but he picked up the keyboard after hearing the Beatles' "White Album."
Steve has played the piano in nightclubs and jazz festivals around the world with Nancy King, toured Europe with the Alan Jones Sextet, and performed at the PDX Jazz Fest with Kurt Elling.
He's taught workshops and master classes at home and abroad, and worked with Jim Pepper, Karrin Allyson and many others. Steve is heard on recordings with Nancy King, The Metropole Orchestra and Skol Brothers, the electric quintet that features his compositions.
