Space is limited, log in to register and view availability.

Week 1 | February 4 & 5 | 4 - 5 pm
Theme: Composition

In this first week, participants will learn how to compose and frame an image. They will explore vantage points and how important it is to show both background and foreground in their photographs. We’ll build a card viewfinder, and will explore the museum framing subjects with their viewfinders. Practicing angles, vantage points and unique perspectives. At the end of the session, they will take their practice to their cameras to compose and eventually print.

Week 2 | February 11 & 12 | 4 - 5 pm
Theme: Isolating Background

This session will cover how to blur a background or to isolate it from your foreground image. The participants will learn how focus, zooming the lens, and for those cameras that are capable of doing it, how to adjust the settings to get the most blur or least blur in their images. We will carry forward lessons from the previous week about composition and how to maximize the background distance to create the best isolation of their subjects. Using their cameras, participants will explore these principals with the museum exhibits.

Week 3 | February 18 & 19 | 4 - 5 pm
Theme: Macro Photography

Participants will learn how to use their cameras to look at our world up close. They will learn the settings necessary to get closer in on subjects, but also how to utilize their cameras to compose and document the most information they can. If participants do not have cameras with that ability, some lenses may be provided to assist in this. They will explore the museum to practice what they learned.

Week 4 | February 25 & 26 | 4 - 5 pm
Theme: Black and White

Time to get moody with the pictures. This session will discuss the importance of contrast and tone. When is it the right time to use black and white as an effect and to discuss how each colour represents itself when the setting on their cameras are applied. Practice will be done in the museum and images will be printed for participants to take home.
