The ocean is a vast, interconnected ecosystem knowing no boundaries or borders. It is important to work with international partners to understand the full picture of the processes and complexities of the ocean.
February 18th join us at the Brentwood Bay Resort to hear two great speakers:
Starting at 7pm, Ocean Networks Canada will present on the fascinating ways they are engaging the global community. From hosting internationally made instrumentation on their observatory (Wally the robot from Germany, Temp-Mini from France and much more) to sharing data with international networks like Listening to the Deep (Lido) a website that lets you listen in beneath the waters of the Pacific, Mediterranean and North Atlantic to welcoming citizen scientists all the from the Ukraine. All of these partnerships are helping us to gain more knowledge about the big blue and about how changes to it may have an effect on us. Learn more about Ocean Networks Canada at www.oceannetworks.ca
After a short break for coffee and tea (provided by Rockfish), at 8pm Santiago Gutierrez Manzano will be sharing some of his incredible photography and offering some tips on how he was able to capture the best shots. Santiago is not only one of our Instructors at Rockfish, but he is an accomplished professional photographer with an incredible collection from his home country of Mexico and a growing collection from his diving experiences in Canada.
Doors will open at 6:45pm. Parking is available across the street from the Lodge at 849 Verdier Avenue, Brentwood Bay, BC, V8M 1C5. BC Transit - Bus #75 also stops directly in front of the Lodge. Upon your arrival, follow the signs we will have posted to guide you to the presentation room. The adjoining Brentwood Bay Pub is a great location to move any after-presentation discussions you may want to have with the presenters.
