Issues in Translation
-- Saturday, February 27, 2016, 1:00 – 4:00
What makes a good translation? Should a translation read like a translation, or should it read as though it were originally written in the target language? Several schools of thought will be discussed, and the pros and cons of each weighed. Participants are asked to bring texts and dictionaries for in-session translation exercises and workshops, or examples of their favourite – or least favourite -- translations (with the originals, if possible).
