Miranda Sage Quintet

English-born, classically-trained vocalist Miranda Sage brings her sultry, sophisticated and expressive alto back to Hermann's Jazz Club. The elegant chanteuse, who studied with Norma Winstone and was championed by Hugh Fraser, will be accompanied, as always, by a stellar line-up of musicians. This time, it's Juno-winning pianist Don Thompson (Sarah Vaughan, Mel Torme, Sonny Greenwich, Rob McConnell); Juno-winning bassist Ken Lister (Pat Coleman, Hugh Fraser); drummer Dan Brubeck (The Brubecks); and sax player Roy Styffe (Kenny Wheeler, Rene Rosnes, Rob McConnell). The quintet will be performing numbers from Sage's latest album, Daydream, a classy-souding, Latin-tinged recording that features a bossa nova treatment of Serenade in Blue, a cover of Brazilian composer Ivan Lins' Island and an original tango called Alone at Last. The cd has been receiving international and national airplay and the critics kudos.
