6:01 PM to 8:00 PM

Join us July 8th from 6pm – 8pm for the opening reception of our Artist-in-Residence Danica Worral's solo show Motion In Stillness.

Motion in Stillness is a collection of functional ceramics made by Danica Worrall, designed to capture the nature of clay and celebrate the intimate process of hand-making objects for everyday use. Every interaction is left behind from the finger marks pressed into the base and the sharp grooves undulate around the shape of her pots. While the body of the pieces have fluidity and movement, the glaze finish is intended to solidify that movement and turn them to stone with an elegant feel. With human intervention, these pieces bring a sense of organic matter to your table to elevate your dining experience.

The fluid look of her surface design is obtained by pressing and marking the clay at its wettest stage while it is still on her potter’s wheel. This is when it is most responsive, giving the opportunity for the pottery to retain traces of human touch.

Every interaction is left behind from the finger marks pressed into the base and the sharp grooves undulate around the shape of her pots. She protects these gestural patterns so that once finished they are captured motion in time.

The choices of glaze finish are in contrast to the soft forms. Danica uses glazes that resemble polished rocks in texture and colours that are simultaneously warm and cool.

While the body of the pieces have fluidity and movement, the glaze finish is intended to solidify that movement, capturing the gestures and turning them to stone with an elegant feel. With human intervention these pieces bring a sense of organic matter to your table to elevate your dining experience.

These pots welcome touch like sun-soaked rocks or worn stones from a riverbed.
