Saturday, February 28th, 2015
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM

Join us and support KSS’s 1000-Crane Project for Peace Saturday, February 28 1-3pm at Art Lab, Nanaimo Art Gallery.

Art Lab is hosting a free community workshop with Shino Yoneda who will teach us how to fold origami paper cranes. The origami cranes will then be delivered and dedicated to the Children’s Peace Monument in Hiroshima, Japan this March 2015 by students from Kwalikum Secondary School, Qualicum Beach.

The 1000 Paper Cranes Project for Peace is to commemorate Sadako Sasaki and the thousands of child victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. This project, started by Sadako Sasaki who died of leukemia after being exposed to the atomic bomb, became a symbol of peace around the world. Sadako is immortalized at the top of the statue, where she holds a crane. Thousands of origami cranes from all over the world are offered around the monument on a daily basis.

If you are interested in folding your thoughts and prayers for world peace into paper cranes, please join us on Saturday, February 28 from 1-3pm at Art Lab. This workshop is free.

Folding instructions will be given by Shino Yoneda and Art Lab will provide origami paper supplies for the workshop. Call Nanaimo Art Gallery at 250-754-1750 to register. All ages welcome. Children under 8 should be accompanied by parent/adult.
