Five plays in five days – a feast of theatre excellence Celebrating Community Through Theatre

Nanaimo Theatre Group will host the North Island Zone Theatre Festival May 19 through May 24, 2026 at the Bailey Studio on Rosstown Road. Sponsored by Theatre BC, the annual Festival will include entries from Campbell River, Courtenay, Port Alberni, Qualicum Beach and Nanaimo

. In a spirit of friendly competition, each theatre club will present their production for adjudication, the prize being the chance to compete at the provincial Theatre BC Mainstage Festival in July. It’s an action-packed day for the participants. They move into the theatre with set, lights, costumes and props, perform their play, and take it all away again, all within approximately 12 hours. The clubs are judged on all aspects of production: lighting, sound, set, costumes, backstage coordination, as well as acting.

This year’s adjudicator is local actor, playwright, and musician Yvette Dudley-Neuman. Tickets to each night’s performance are $25 and available through Nanaimo Theatre Group at https://www.nanaimotheatregroup.ca/
