Bio for Jamie Wallace: Jamie Wallace is a Landscape designer, Permaculture Designer, Landscape Contractor, Rainwater harvesting designer and installer. Jamie has been working in the landscape industry for over 30 years since first starting with the Vancouver Parks Board. Here Jamie completed a four year apprenticeship which provided him with a wonderful experience rotating duties in places like Queen Elizabeth Park, Stanley Park, The Bloedel Conservatory and Van Dusen Gardens. Following a strong interest in plants and there cultivation, Jamie secured a position in England working at Windsor Great Park for the Crown Commission. In 1996 with a strong plant knowledge base, Jamie and his wife Angela moved to Lantzville on Vancouver Island were they started a landscape design and construction firm. A few years later the BCLNA, CNLA, and the CHBABC were recognizing their company for the unique and high quality landscapes that they created. Jamie is a certified CANARM rainwater harvesting professional as well as Permaculture designer and consultant within the mid-Vancouver Island area. He also became an active member of CANARM and is sitting on the Board of Directors helping to promote RWH awareness and education. Currently Jamie is a spokesperson and director for FUAL (Friends of Urban Agriculture in Lantzville Society), as well as a Manure Maven and founder of the Mid-Vancouver Island Permaculture group. Presentation: Jamie’s presentation will focus on Permaculture and Rainwater harvesting and how these two work together to improve a sites resilience. Permaculture is an ethic based design system developed in Australia in the late 70's by Bill Mollison and David Holgrem. Permaculture has many branches that include but are not limited to ecological design, ecological engineering, environmental design, construction and integrated water resource management that develops sustainable architecture, regenerative and self-maintained habitat and agricultural systems modelled from natural ecosystems. Rainwater harvesting is one of the tools in the Permaculture tool belt and we will dive into how these two approaches to land design can overlap.

Bio for Ed Hoeppner: The principle of Aquarian Systems, Ed Hoeppner, has a long history in the housing industry, designing and building houses and twenty years of experience in researching and developing innovative water management systems. He has worked closely with community organizations, homeowners, regulators, architects, engineers and other professionals in developing creative onsite solutions that address environmental, social, and economic considerations. At the ODCA water forum in Parksville he will present on an integrated approach when designing for a new or existing property, bringing together building and landscape design with rainwater, storm water, and wastewater management. During this past winter, Ed worked with the team creating the Draft Manual for Composting Toilets and Grey Water Practice for the B.C. Ministry of Health, which undertook the drafting of Standards and Guidelines for the introduction of the use of composting toilets and grey water systems in the province. The Draft Manual is currently distributed for stakeholder review and is anticipated to be implemented in policy sometime this coming winter. How will the new policy affect the housing industry and householders in B.C? What is a composting toilet and why use one? What is grey water? How will the new regulations allow for grey water use for landscape irrigation? Come to the forum and find out the answers to these and other questions. Ed Has presented many times over the years on various aspects of onsite water management including RDN public forums, the B.C. Onsite Sewage Association conferences, and most recently at the Western Canada Onsite Wastewater Management Assoc. AGM and Conference introducing the new draft regulation. Before developing a property, or redesigning an existing property, contact Aquarian Systems to develop an integrated site water management strategy incorporated with architectural and landscape design.
