The English Bay oil spill earlier this year proved that we aren’t ready for even a relatively ‘small’ spill, let alone a massive tar sands spill from one of the 400 tankers a year that would travel right past Victoria if the Kinder Morgan pipeline is approved. Join us for a free community workshop with internationally renowned oil spill expert, Dr. Riki Ott. Find out about gaps in spill response, health risks of exposure to oil spills and response activities, and how we as coastal communities can work together to strengthen oil spill planning in the Salish Sea.

This is a rare opportunity to learn lessons from Dr. Ott’s experience on the front-lines of the Exxon Valdez, BP Deepwater Horizon and Kalamazoo River oil spill disasters, and discuss how Victoria area residents can take action locally to improve oil spill planning and response to protect the people and places we love.
