Pet Food Drive for Street Dogs & Cats

The Sooke Animal Food and Rescue Society, SAFARS, is the organization with the pet food bank mandate in the Greater Victoria Area. In Victoria we are in a partnership with the Victoria Cool Aid Society's Rock Bay Landing Emergency Shelter located in 353 Ellice St.

On February 23 we are having a pet food drive to collect dry and wet food for the cats and dogs of those individuals most affected by the economic crisis, lack of work, or mental/physical disabilities.  a cat or a dog is the only family, love, companionship, and many times protection that a person living on the street has, or a person licing in emergency shelters.

We also collect flea-treatment, gas gift certificates, and gift certificates in our society's name from Bosley's in Westshore or Shelbourne St, from Paws & Claws in Yates St, Paws in Cook Street Village, or Whiskers & Waggs in Sooke. We use these certificates to buy warm raincoats in the sizes of the dogs who need them, dog backpacks to carry their own blankets, food and bowls and many times food. For example, we never have enough cat food because pet owners with reduced mobility can only have cats. Many low income families have cats in Victoria.
