Philosophy Talk: Coronavirus Response
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Critical thinking can help us cope with frightening events and tackle key questions. How can we make sense of incomplete data? How can we separate true measures of risk from mere feelings of risk? What would be more helpful than buying bulk toilet paper or surgical masks?
Laura Shanner will discuss these questions and more in thinking about how to respond to the coronavirus outbreak. Laura Shanner (PhD) teaches health care ethics and other areas of philosophy at Vancouver Island University. For over a decade, she taught bioethics in the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta. She also served as an expert consultant for several committees, including policy development committees for Health Canada. She will share some useful critical thinking insights that can reduce panic and promote helpful responses in evolving circumstances.
