Celebrate the launch of a new generation of artists on Friday, February 26 at 5:00 pm. Ritual (Un) Natural features media installations, short films and a publication by a talented group of young artists from the Indigenous Youth Arts Program. Artists include: Audie Murray, Chesa Abma, Jesse Campbell, Katie McPhereson, Keilah Lukenbill Williams, Meagan Musseau, and Sionainn Phillips.

Since May 2015 these young artists have been honing their media and literary arts practices mentored by senior artists France Trépanier, Doug Jarvis, Janet Rogers and Steven Davies and acclaimed guest artists including Alanis Obomsawin, James Luna, Lillian Allen, and Peter Morin.

Red Words is a series of public / community conversations hosted and moderated by Aboriginal thinkers, artists, writers, filmmakers, performers and curators.  On February 28 at 3 pm, please join moderator Alexis Hogan and the Indigenous Youth Arts Program participants for Red Words: Conversation with Indigenous Emerging Artists.

Ritual (Un) Natural was made in partnership with MediaNet and with the support of Technical Producer, Kirk Schwartz.

The Indigenous Youth Arts Program (IYAP), coordinated by Aboriginal Curator France Trépanier, is a youth-directed, storytelling arts mentorship program that brings together youth participants, professional artists, and elders. IYAP gives participants the opportunity to develop technical media skills through studio arts sessions, mentorships with established artists, and intergenerational, embodied learning. IYAP is a crucial space for Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Métis) youth to strengthen and develop their voices, tell their stories, and widen their relationships to contemporary Indigenous art, culture and discourse.
