Nanaimo opera fans will be happy to learn that Montreal mezzo-soprano Martina Govednik will be back in town on Sunday, March 18 with her new concert production entitled �Songs of Spring�. The Serbian-Canadian singer will be accompanied by the talented pianist Donna Falconer, with the lovely Allison Cociani as guest soprano. The program offers some of the most beautiful art-song and opera repertoire inspired by the theme of nature's awakening, with compositions by Schubert, Bizet, Britten and Faur�, among others.
Ms. Govednik had great success with her previous creation �Tales of Love in Seven Languages� both in Canada and Europe and is happy to premiere her latest thematic concert for her faithful Nanaimo audience. The concert will take place at St. Paul's United Church on Sunday, March 18th at 3pm. Tickets at the door $20 ($15 for students).
Martina Govednik was born in Belgrade (Serbia) into a musical family. Her mother is a violinist, and father Anton a former composer and conductor at the Belgrade Conservatory of Music, presently living in Nanaimo. Martina completed her Master�s Degree in Voice at McGill University and has performed extensively in Quebec with Opera McGill, Op�ra de Saguenay, Op�ra de Rimouski, POD Theater (Montreal), the McGill Symphony and McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble. In 2009 she debuted in the title role of Carmen, in a production which toured Germany, France and Poland.
