Canada's elder statesman of jazz piano Oliver Jones, isn't about to rest on his laurels. At 81 years old he certainly could. Since his first album in 1983, Oliver Jones has released more than 20 recordings and performed at festivals around the world with some of the best players in the world.
He is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Quebec. In 1993 he received the Martin Luther King Jr. award for his contribution to the black community in Canada. In 2005 he received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for “Lifetime Artistic Achievement.” Back in 2000, Jones attempted to retire from public performance. Luckily for us, it didn't take… this two-time Juno award winner and Justin Time recording artist returns to Victoria with Eric Lagace bass and Jim Doxas drums
Oregon-based jazz chanteuse Halie Loren is a Grammy-nominated singer whose gorgeous voice manages to be simultaneously earthy and ethereal. A Justin Time recording artist with eight CDs to her credit and a busy international touring schedule, Loren is both a great interpreter of jazz classics and a talented songwriter in her own right. Blessed with great tone and marvelous phrasing, Loren has a smoky and resonant alto that, with magical ease, can invoke a sultry Stormy Weather or a movingly beautiful interpretation of Horace Silver’s Peace.
