The Child Haven Fundraiser Dinner features a delicious vegetarian Indian meal, no-host bar, Indian marketplace and silent auction, local musical talent and a joyful atmosphere of celebration. Come and learn about Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino, these remarkable humanitarians along with their son Robin (who now carries the torch) of the charity known as Child Haven International. This event is one of many on their busy cross-Canada circuit that the now elderly Cappuccinos attend and orchestrate. Their tireless energy and dedication cannot be matched and, aside from Bonnie's enchanting appearance with her Indian garb and jangling Indian bling, and Fred's delightfully wry humour, one cannot help but be impressed and intrigued by their life's work of helping impoverished children. Their beginnings spring from a farmhouse in Maxville, Ontario where, on a ministers salary they expanded their own family of two to twenty one and raised them all under one roof. From there "Bonniema" and "Fredpa" as they are fondly known as by the children, branched out to India, Nepal, Tibet and Bangladesh to create 10 different homes for 1,300 children. These homes are sanctuaries where the children are housed, nourished, receive healthcare and vocational training, emotionally supported and loved and then released with confidence into this modern world.
Child Haven is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Ghandi which means respecting all religions and cultures, disregards caste, practices vegetarianism, non violence and simple living. All monies raised go directly to the benefit of the children.
This will be the 23rd time the Oceanside Community will host these recipients of the Governor Generals' Award whose charity takes no corporate sponsorship or government support and is run entirely by volunteers. Come and enjoy the lively music of Kumbana Marimba and experience the flavours of India and purchase a beautiful memento which will ultimately help these disadvantaged children. Bring your friends and reserve a table for yourselves and celebrate a continuously altruistic cause that brings in a bit of good into this complicated and imperfect world.
