A Cappella Plus invites you to join us as we reflect on “THE HEART OF HOME”. This program explores the meaning of home. It recognizes that a sense of home can be found in people, in shelter, in nature and in nations. It can also be found in our hearts!

Home (Drew Pearson and Greg Holden) sings of home being a refuge when troubles drag you down. Home (James Sizemore) assures us that when winter comes, heart is where the home is found. Home Sweet Home (Henry Bishop) assures us that there’s no place like home. Another Day in Paradise (Phil Collins) paints a picture of the desperation of a street person calling out for help but being ignored. The lyric asks us to “think twice ‘cause, it’s another day for you and me in paradise” but others are not so fortunate. Frank Ticheli gives us the beautiful Earth Song and the message to “Sing, Be, Live, See”. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Sweet Home Alabama will make you want to dance while Our House (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) gives us a good reason for singing along if the spirit moves you. Va Pensiero, a chorus from Verdi’s 1842 opera Nabucco, reflects the sorrow of people being held in captivity and evokes a spirit of memory and longing for the homeland. This is My Home (Robert Buckley) will make your heart swell with patriotic pride as we sing of Canada where “heart and home are one”.

In reality, ‘home’ is more about a feeling than about a place and those feelings can range from comfort, warmth and safety to sadness, loneliness and desperation depending upon life circumstances. There is something for everyone in this program and we hope you will join us.

We are pleased to be partnering with Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS) for this concert series. ICCS provides housing alternatives and holistic support for people who have experienced adversity and homelessness.
