On July 16 Sidney’s Star Cinema will hold a special screening of The Seagull to support the 2019 Sidney Literary Festival. The Star has been an ongoing supporter of the Sidney literary festivals.

The Seagull is a 2018 American drama film directed by Michael Mayer with a screenplay by Stephen Karam, based on the Anton Chekhov play. The film stars Saoirse Ronan, Annette Bening, Elizabeth Moss and Corey Stoll.

An aging actress pays summer visits to her brother and her son on a country estate in Russia. On one occasion, she brings Boris, a successful novelist and her lover. Nina, a free and innocent girl on a neighboring estate falls in love with Boris. The New York Times reported that “Ms. Bening, Ms. Moss and Ms. Ronan in particular are superb. Each one finds the individuality that Chekhov, with uncanny sympathy and sly gallantry, imparted to his female characters. The cast is great. The film is great.”
