" The individual whose vision encompasses the whole world often feels nowhere so hedged in and out of touch with his surroundings as in his native land" - Emma Goldman
If this quote strikes a chord with you, perhaps you've realized it's much harder coming home from an international development experience than it is preparing to leave. Whether you are a development worker, volunteer, or missionary, recognizing that the re-entry process has a beginning, middle and an end is key and you don't have to go through it alone!
The Third Culture Club concept was formed at a seminar on Entry/Re-Entry hosted by CV GAN at NIC last March. The intent of the club is to provide support to local development workers and volunteers from a peer-to-peer perspective. We're global enthusiasts with colourful international backgrounds who hope to gain and offer support through ongoing informal sharing sessions and learning circles focused on entry/re-entry, pre-departure preparation, debriefing, and "coming home" shock.
We hope to continue to make a difference in the world while we are at home, simply by helping each other. Hope you can join us!
