Encore! Women's Choir were winners of Best Community Choir Award at the 2016 Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival. Encore! members are ready to sing their hearts out for your enjoyment at their Spring Concert.

Choir Director Christine Dandy's unambiguous instructions and clear vision for success, coupled with accompanist Rykie Avenant's piano skills and discerning ear for pitch result in a tone and a sound that is both pleasing and precise.

The first half of the concert will combine Classical and Folk styles, with Eric Whitacre's "The Seal Lullaby" and the beautiful "Stars" by Canadian Composer Sheldon Rose, alongside the powerful Camp Song, "No Time" and lighter fare such as Ian Tamblyn's "Woodsmoke and Oranges," a Kirby Shaw arrangement of the American Folk Hymn "How Can I Keep from Singing", and the pop song "I Say a Little Prayer".

And then, for their premiere appearance in Duncan, Encore! is delighted to bring you Vancouver Island's largest male a cappella chorus, The Tidesmen, to sing the second half of the program. Based in Nanaimo and central Vancouver Island, this 50 voice men's chorus has been enjoying making music and laughter together since 1973.

The Tidesmen have traditionally presented wonderful entertainment, and this year is no different. The chorus guarantees you'll be delighted, or double your troubles back! Their performance -- "Marooned on Harmony Island" is a hilarious island musical with songs and stories of castaway life.

The Tidesmen Chorus and various quartets will sing Rock and Roll classics, including Barbara Ann, Come Go With Me, and The Lion Sleeps Tonight, while an improbable story unfolds to delight all ages. A joint finale with both musical groups sing "Lock Lomond" will round out the evening!
