U. of S. Alumni living on Vancouver Island from Duncan to Port Hardy are invited to a Sunday Brunch in September. This is an opportunity to network and socialize with people who, like you, attended the U. of S. and now live on Vancouver Island. Lesia Davis, recently retired as the Executive Director of the Campbell River Museum, will explore 'A Sense of Place' during the keynote presentation. After the brunch, there will be opportunities to take a guided walk or to golf at local courses.
A Sense of Place
Through life choices and careers, through poetry and shared reflection a sense of place is more than the physical space we occupy. Lesia will examine if commonalities exist from our threads at the University of Saskatchewan to our current Vancouver Island residencies, from the poetic to the mundane, perhaps indeed, defining a shared sense of space with all attendees.
Lesia Davis gradually swam west from her beginnings in Saskatchewan, starting her first degree on a scholarship at the U of S during the baby boom tide. She completed her undergraduate degree at the U of C with distinction in English & Art, followed by 3 years at the Alberta College of Art & Design and the Banff School of Fine Arts. A Campbell River resident for the past 14 years, the west coast is now her selected habitat. Lesia retired recently from the position of Executive Director of the Museum at Campbell River. In April 2012, she was named the recipient of the Canadian Museum Associations Barbara A. Tyler Award in Museum Leadership.
