Bill Johnson was born into a musical family in Halifax. When he was a toddler the family moved to Ottawa, and thanks to an older brother The Blues rang through the house. By the time Bill was nine, the family moved once again, this time to Victoria, where he became obsessed with playing blues guitar. While other kids read comics, Chuck Berry was Bill’s Superman. At the age of fifteen he began his career as a professional guitarist. After a long career as a sideman, in the 1990s he formed the Bill Johnson Band and began touring. Today, Bill continues to tour, both solo and with his band, and has hosted blues workshops throughout Canada.
Released in 2010, Bill’s latest solo album, “Still Blue”, won two Blewzzy Awards and was nominated for a Western Canada Music Award, three Maple Blues Awards, and the 2012 Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year. http://www.billjohnsonblues.com/

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
