Victoria Folk Music Society presents: The Carolina Bluebirds
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
The Carolina Bluebirds enjoy sharing their love of cheerful and moving songs from the early- to mid-1900s, and introducing modern audiences to gems that were popular in their time but are rarely heard any more. Caroline Covil (vocals) is joined by Graeme Card (guitar, vocals) and Ian Johnston (guitar, ukulele, banjo ukulele and vocals). Caroline's clear, sweet soprano vocals and warm delivery suit the music perfectly, and is balanced by Ian and Graeme's ragtime guitar picking.
Ian and Graeme are long-time musicians in Victoria: Ian with bands such as Rig-A-Jig, The Slowpokes, and The Garden City Blue Blowers; and Graeme with The Jug Bandits, The Chattering Class, and Humphrey and the Dump Trucks. Since the trio got together in 2013, they have moved from playing open stages and farmer's markets to being featured at the Deep Cove Folk Club, and have been invited to play the Islands Folk Festival in July.

Our feature act will be preceded by what is arguably Victoria’s best weekly acoustic Open Stage session where musicians from fledglings to professionals can perform a 10 minute set for one of the most welcoming, attentive and participative audiences in town. Aspiring Open Stage performers can sign-up with the VFMS Host between 7:00 and 7:30pm to do a set but should get there early to improve their chances of getting on the evening’s line-up.
