Conversations for a One Planet Region: Engaging citizens in the socio-cultural and ecological challenges of the Anthropocene The world faces massive and rapid human-induced global ecological changes, commonly known as the Anthropocene, of which climate change is but one. To meet this challenge, we need to reduce our ecological footprint drastically and take only our fair share of the Earth’s bio-capacity and resources. But we are not yet having serious discussions about this. Conversations for a One Planet Region has been working to engage citizens in the Greater Victoria Region in such discussions, recognizing that if we don’t learn about and understand the problem, we can’t begin to imagine a better future and then co-design and co-create it. Presented by: Dr. Trevor Hancock, President, Conversations for a One Planet Region and Retired Professor of Public Health, University of Victoria Dr. Hancock is a public health physician and an internationally recognised leader in the creation of healthy cities and communities. For many decades he has focused on the relationship between health and the natural and built environments, co-founding the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, and in the 1980s was the first Leader of the Green Party in Canada. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session and then a reception in the lobby of the Malaspina Theater Please register for your free ticket at engagedcitizens2.eventbrite.ca
