A FREE concert!
The Port Theatre's Youth Arts Initiative presents a fun, inspiring evening featuring the music of We Are The City, with local openers Gold & Shadow and The Wild Romantics. This event is part of National Youth Arts Week, and will also feature great prizes, food and activities throughout the lobby.
WE ARE THE CITY creates their own brand of pop music. The band consists of high school friends Cayne McKenzie (vocals/keyboards) Andrew Huculiak (drums) and David Menzel (guitar). In January of 2010, We Are The City placed first in 102.7 The Peak's prestigious PEAK Performance Project for their debut album In A Quiet World. After their follow-up EP High School was hailed 'a mini masterwork' by The Vancouver Sun, the band toured Canada four times and begun playing shows in the U.S, opening for such acts as Mother Mother, Sam Roberts, Tokyo Police Club, and Braids.
Their latest album, Violent, was produced by Tom Dobrzanski (Said The Whale, The Zolas, Hey Ocean) and led to a cross Canada tour with Canadian hip-hop artist Shad. The album is a sonic roller coaster filled with ups and downs, louds and quiets, straddling the line between the beautiful and the abrasive and encompassing the full scope of We Are the City's musical maximalism.
GOLD & SHADOW's vigorous and organic approach to creative rock music is a perfect match for the wild, oceanic landscapes of their Vancouver Island home.
THE WILD ROMANTICS only formed in 2013, but have shared the stage with the likes of Wake Owl, Head of the Herd, Daniel Wesley, and were accepted into The Peak Performance Project 2014 Top 12 finalists.
