Western Edge Theatre: Plays and Birthday Cake
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
You may remember that last Fall we held our very successful series of Plays and Pie staged readings. Now we're back with a variation -- Plays and Birthday Cake, on Saturday, March 28th.
The play is the classic The Caretaker, and the birthday celebration is for Antony Holland, who will be 95-years young that day. Our own recent Order of Canada recipient (there he is to the left receiving it from Governor-general David Johnston in September) has been an important part of Western Edge Theatre since he starred in our production of Tuesdays with Morrie, a role which he later repeated, and won a Jessie Award for, in Vancouver. And he's still acting, of course.
Antony will appear in the staged reading of this gleefully dark Harold Pinter comedy-drama as Davies, whom he first played as a guest performer at Vancouver Island University in 1991. Joining him will be two other veteran theatricians, Garry Davey and Frank Moher. After the performance, we'll fete Antony and cut a birthday cake in his honour. We'd promise 95 candles, but we're not sure the fire department would like that.
Please join us to mark this very special occasion with one Canada's greatest theatrical figures. Admission is by donation at the door on March 28th, at 7 pm at the delightful Kismet Theatre Academy, 55 Victoria Rd., Nanaimo. |
The event is a fundraiser for Western Edge.
