November 2nd: Healthy Happy Hips!
Love your hips! And by loving your hips, your knees, feet, and back will feel the love as well. Your hips help you to walk, run and play. Yet for many of us, because of a lifestyle that includes long periods of sitting and exercise activities that generally only move us in one or two planes of motion, the hips are chronically tight. And even in a regular yoga practice, we can bypass true hip mobility which leaves the lower back and SI joints vulnerable. This workshop will explore the anatomy and biomechanics of the hips to build stability and uncover a deeper mobility in your hip joints. Working with various postures and movements we will unglue tight hips, asses what is causing your current limitations and intelligently reawaken those forgotten and neglected areas. Whether you are a long-time yogi or feel like you have the tightest hips in the world, this workshop will give you the tools to walk away with healthy, happy hips!
December 7: Strong & Supple Shoulders
Does the thought of swinging on monkey bars or lifting something heavy over your head make your shoulders cringe? Do you hear clicking in your shoulders when they move? Lifestyle factors such as hunching over keyboards, driving in cars, along with stress can decrease your range of motion and can add to shoulder instability. Tight shoulders will restrict breathing and compromise posture.
Using a variety of techniques and specific yoga postures, we will unwind tension from the neck, shoulders, down the arms to the wrists and hands. You will discover ways to stabilize your shoulder girdle so that you can find more strength and mobility in your chaturanga and downward dogs. Walk away with shoulders and arms that can hug, swing, move effortlessly and pain-free.
January 18: Happy Feet, Healthy Body
Your feet are a brilliant work of engineering, comprised of 26 bones, 33 joints, and more than 100 muscles all designed to carry and support your body. Yet after a lifetime of wearing shoes combined with postural imbalances, our feet have lost their intrinsic strength and mobility, resulting in foot aches and pains, bunions, hammertoes, plantar fasciitis to name a few. As your feet are the foundation of your health and the base of support for your entire body, when you give some love to your feet, the rest of your body will thank you. In this workshop, we will learn why we need to reawaken the feet for total body health. Explore how simple changes in your habits, alignment, and footwear can make a big difference to your foot health. Along with specific exercises, we will roll out the connective tissues in the feet to experience a whole level of awakening and mobility. Happy feet indeed!
Note: Please bring a pen and journal. These workshops are unheated.
